Conax AS, a leading supplier of conditional access technology for digital TV, has through its strategic partnership with the system integrator Comtech Korea Corp. (Comtech) signed a contract with CMB DMC, the third largest MSO in Korea.

Aug 16, 2005

CMB DMC has installations in 5 cities, with a potential subscriber base of 2million. For the purpose of obtaining an effective digitalisation, CMB DMC will have one super H/E system and 4 sub H/E systems, which will supply all end-users of 12 cable operators with digital services. CMB DMC will launch their pay TV and call-based event PPV services using the Conax CAS7 CableCARDTM around September, with trial service from October and commercial service from January next year. They plan to expand the services to Real Video-on-Demand and advanced bi-directional data broadcasting from March next year.

"The contract with CMB DMC is a real breakthrough for Conax in the Korean market. The recent certification of Conax CAS7 CableCARDTM for the Korean market and the successful implementation of Conax CAS for KCTV Jeju Broadcasting's OpenCableTM roll-out have laid the foundation to fulfil the customers' needs. We will ensure a successful implementation of CMB DMC*s services along with Comtech", says Raza Ansari, Conax VP Asia.

"Thanks to Conax's solution, channel tuning time on KCTV Jeju cable's service is the shortest in Korea in terms of digital service. This is being valued by the operators", says Mr. Young Kyu Kim, Vice President, Comtech Korea Corp. "Even though Conax is a foreign company, they have provided the best on site support in competing for the contract with CMB DMC. Their responsiveness and agility towards the customer's requirements and the fact that there are no hidden costs involved, were vital for CMB DMC when deciding for CA system for their digital operation", he adds.
