Conax to deliver Conditional Access services for TrendTV, West Africa

Conax AS, a leading supplier of conditional access technology for digital TV, has signed a contract with Communication Trends Network Limited (CTNL), a successful MMDS operator, to provide all security technology for its new DTH platform.

Feb 9, 2004

The DTH platform covers the English speaking population in West Africa. Launch of 32 channels will take place in March 2004. CTNL will market the satellite TV service, branded TrendTV, through its subsidiary, Communication Trends Limited (CTL), which operates the largest MMDS network in Africa, with locations in 14 major Nigerian cities. CTL currently operates a seven-channel 30,000 subscriber wireless cable MMDS network. The company recently completed the build out of the network in all fourteen cities and expects to more than double the subscriber base by year-end 2004. Following the successful DTH technical launch in December 2003, CTL is now testing the signals within the coverage area of West Africa.

"Conax is very pleased with the selection of Conax CAS5 and related technology for this project in Africa. This proves once again that Conax's solutions are successful outside our European home market," says Bent Brugård, CEO at Conax.

"CTL has a history of deploying advanced technology and acquiring reliable equipment from the world's most reputable vendors and industry leaders. We selected Conax following a technical evaluation that focused on the security aspect, the solutions offered for flexible programming, the protection of premium content and payment collection from our subscribers in Africa. The solutions offered by Conax are vital parts of our business model", says Uzo Udemba, CEO of Communication Trends Network Limited.
