Conax strengthen its' position as market leader in the CIS and Central and Eastern Europe
Conax AS, a leading supplier of conditional access technology for digital TV, has signed up 4 new customers in the CIS and Central and East Europe (CEE) during the first months of 2004.

Media TV, the MMDS operator in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, signed an agreement with Conax in March to supply Conax CAS5 for its operations, covering the city of Tashkent (3.5 million people). With this new customer, the Conax Conditional Access technology is now in use in three of the four largest cities of the CIS, i.e. Teleinform in Moscow, Media TV in Tashkent, and Volia, the largest cable operator in the Ukraine, located in Kiev. The Russian speaking Conax customers are served by the Conax service and support centre in Moscow.
On Balkan two more operators have decided to encrypt with Conax. In Kosovo the national broadcaster RTK will start to encrypt its DTH service with Conax CAS5 and the Albanian Top Channel selected Conax Conditional Access for its new DTT platform. Top Channel will use the Conax Voucher Server for pre-paid Pay-Per-View (PPV) and use GSM-SMS as return channel when ordering PPV channels.
In May Conax signed a contract with Balticum TV of Lithuania for the use of Conax CAS5. They will start digital CATV and MMDS operations in July, and continue with the start of DTT operations this autumn. Balticum TV is the largest operator in Lithuania with almost 100.000 homes passed and the first to start digital television services with Conditional Access in the Baltic States.
