Icelandic Broadcasting Corporation will use the Conax CAS7 system for its Digital Terrestrial operation (DTT), starting this November.

Conax CAS7, introduced at IBC 2004 in Amsterdam, includes new exciting features such as use of mobile phone to order digital TV content and enhanced copy protection by extending the broadcast security level to the Personal Video Recorder (PVR).

Icelandic Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) is the TV and Radio division of Northern Lights Communication, the largest privately operated media company and the most dynamic company in the field of entertainment in Iceland. IBC has ordered a complete Conax CAS7 system for conversion of their analogue subscribers to digital, enabling vast expansion of IBC's offering to their subscribers. Conax CAS7 also gives Icelandic Broadcasting Corporation the possibility to make ordering and payment of content very convenient.

"We have had an excellent dialogue with Conax from the very first contact through the whole process. An important reason for choosing the Conax CAS7 is our strong belief in the security of the system, as well as the new product features introduced, resulting in attractive business models," says Kristjan M. Gretarsson, VP Digital Development of Icelandic Broadcasting Corporation. "Their payment solution, using the mobile phone to order movies and events makes us able to introduce cost effective Set-Top-Boxes, facilitating the transition to digital", he adds.

"Conax is proud to present the first customer of CAS7 at the same time as we launch the system. This is an important win for Conax, as Iceland is part of our home market. The Icelandic people is known as being early adopters of the latest technological developments, and the contract with Icelandic Broadcasting Corporation thus represents a great opportunity for Conax to introduce all the new and exciting features of the CAS7 system. We look forward to helping IBC starting their DTT operation in Iceland", says Ole Hansvold, COO and Vice President of Conax.
